SHINING THE LIGHT ON THE NATION’S LARGEST SCHOOL-BASED SOLAR PROJECT
PsomasFMG was a joint-venture between Psomas Renewables, LLC, a subsidiary of the consulting engineering firm Psomas, and First Management Group, LLC, a diverse partnership of veteran CEOs. PsomasFMG utilized a combination of engineering know-how, private investor financing, and federal and state subsidies to provide affordable turnkey solar solutions to their clients.
While the firm was actively developing key solar projects throughout the region, their reputation as a new firm meant they needed to properly promote their work and showcase their ability to handle everything from project conception and system design, to financing, installation, operation, and maintenance.
The first step was to develop a narrative and key messages for the firm and its leadership – who had already built strong and successful reputations in the business world. This messaging was vital to showcasing the expertise of the company and highlighting its significant project work in the solar industry.
The media campaign focused on two key projects, both in the Antelope Valley. One was a 9.6 Megawatt project at 10 campuses in the Antelope Valley Union High School District – California’s largest school-based solar project at the time. The other was a solar power system installed at 19 elementary and intermediate schools within the Palmdale School District. Both were designed to save millions of dollars over the term of a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement and reduce the districts’ overall expenditures on electricity.
For both projects, “ribbon cutting” ceremonies were held at key schools in each district, and including participation from school leaders and students. In addition, local and regional elected officials and stakeholders attended, speaking about the positive impacts of the projects on the community-at-large. In addition, PsomasFMG and its work in the solar industry was featured in key regional media outlets like the Antelope Valley Journal, Antelope Valley Press, and the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. Media coverage also highlighted the firm’s further commitment to the area by establishing local scholarships for school district students.
In addition to the media coverage, PsomasFMG was also recognized by the California Environmental Protection Agency for its exemplary and innovative green solutions.
